Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Textra ("the Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Software. You must be at least 13 years of age to use Textra.

2. Account Registration

You must sign in with a Google account to use Textra. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. You agree to provide accurate information and to notify us promptly of any unauthorized access.

3. Subscriptions and Billing

Textra is offered on a paid subscription basis. Payment is processed through Stripe. A 7-day free trial is available for new Pro subscribers. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date.

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account page or the Stripe billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Refunds are provided at our discretion and in accordance with applicable consumer protection law. Prices may change with 30 days' advance notice.

4. AI Research Agent

Pro and Pro+ subscribers have access to the AI Research Agent ("the Agent"). Usage is subject to monthly token budgets that vary by plan. The Agent is provided as-is. We make no guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of citations, suggestions, or edits produced by the Agent.

You are responsible for verifying all Agent output before use in academic or professional work. You agree not to use the Agent to generate spam, misleading content, or content that violates third-party rights.

5. Your Data and Documents

Your LaTeX documents are stored exclusively on your local machine. Textra does not upload, transmit, or access your document content. Account information (name, email, subscription status) is stored on our servers. AI Research Agent interactions involve sending queries to third-party AI providers; do not include personal or sensitive information in Agent queries. See our Privacy Policy for details.

6. Intellectual Property

Textra and all associated software, documentation, and branding are our intellectual property. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or redistribute the Software. Your LaTeX documents remain entirely your own intellectual property — we claim no rights over content you create.

7. Third-Party Services

Textra integrates with Google (authentication), Stripe (payments), Semantic Scholar (academic paper data), and various AI model providers. Your use of these services is also subject to their respective terms of service. We are not responsible for the availability or conduct of third-party services.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Software will be error-free, uninterrupted, or meet your specific requirements.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Software. Our total aggregate liability shall not exceed the amount paid by you in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms. You may terminate your account by cancelling your subscription and ceasing use of the Software. Upon termination, your account data may be deleted after a reasonable retention period.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

12. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes via email or in-app notification. Your continued use of the Software after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
